My mom just put this picture of me up on facebook and my Nana said, " I think she was born with a book in her hand" (I'm paraphrasing...but you get the idea). Obviously, that is an exaggeration but she's not far off. I feel naked without a book on me and usually have two piles of books, one on my desk at work (usually craft books or YA titles) and one on my bedside table (romances, house design, and...well...romances) and of course, there is the ever present New Yorker magazine that I just started to subscribe to after making a donation to WNYC. I keep it in my purse as a back up in case I finish whatever I'm reading and I never thought I'd keep up with it but when you decide to only read a couple of the articles instead of committing to the whole thing, its pretty manageable. And you can say things at parties like, "I read in the New Yorker that Barry Bonds has shrunken testicles..." things like that. I mean, that hasn't happened yet but if someone brings up Barry Bonds, or steirods, or baseball in general, I'll have that ready.
This week I finished Nora Roberts' latest, Chasing Fire (which came very quickly from the library...and I was number 140 on the list!) about smoke jumpers in Montana that fall in love. And now I'm reading Drought by Pam Bachorz which is a good read for anyone that liked the Hunger Games but wished there were weird references to Jesus in it. Its about a girl who if forced into backbreaking work and knows nothing about the modern world around her. She dreams of running away and finding freedom but knows that if she leaves her family, they are as good as dead. Its pretty good, but I'm waiting for someone to kick some butt, so far its pretty depressing.
You know what I would love to read right now? More Chip N' Dale comic books.
